After meeting with the ASA over the winter, it had been decided that South Jersey Tournaments would take the reins and produce a completely new “open” striper tournament with all of the fun, competitiveness and hoopla of other South Jersey hallmark events.
Although this new event did not formally involve the ASA, the association was planning to sanction it, as they do others, so their members could gain points and compete for their own ASA prizes while fishing the tournament. However, after much consideration, we have decided to cancel the New Big Bass Open, (October 28 -30), due to the fact that there are currently three other good, established events in the area, put on by our neighbors, and we thought that adding a fourth would simply be too much during that time period.
If you are planning to take advantage of the outstanding bass fishing we have in Cape May in the coming months, we do have special pricing on slips for the bass season and would love to have you. Simply contact our dockmaster, Chris Booth at (609) 884-2400 and he’ll get you set up.
If you are interested in competitive striper fishing, we suggest you participate in one of the other great events here in town (contact info below). And as always, good luck and great fishing!

The annual South Jersey Big Bass Open is undergoing some exciting changes as well for 2010 and we think you’ll be excited. In the past, this tournament was an American Striper Association (ASA) event which was run and promoted primarily as a vehicle for their members, although it was open for anyone to join in and compete. After meeting with the ASA over the winter, it has been decided that South Jersey Tournaments will produce a new striper tournament which will have all of the fun, competitiveness and hoopla as other South Jersey hallmark events. And for ASA members, you can still gain points and compete for ASA prizes within this new tournament as it will be officially sanctioned by the Association. Mercury Marine will be the major engine sponsor along with their local affiliate, Cape Harbor Marine. Other national and regional sponsors will also be taking part, all of which will add to the excitement. As of this writing, plans were still being finalized, but you can count on a first class, multi-day event in true South Jersey Style! Check back for details on the new format, rules, prize money, etc. Dates will be October 27-30. We think you’re really going to like this!
