2010 Tuna Tourney Preview, July 14-17

If you’re serious about catching tuna, and winning a lot of money in the process, then you already know about South Jersey’s Mid-Atlantic Tuna Tournament. Chances are good that you’ve been here before and if you have, we bet that you’ll be back in 2010 to compete for a portion of the purse. In previous years, the stream of tuna coming to the scales has been virtually continuous making South Jersey’s tuna tournament the most popular in southern Jersey.
The 2009 tournament was a case in point. The first fish was weighed within minutes of the scales opening on Day One, and the pace rarely slackened during the tournament’s three day run. In fact the only person busier than Weighmaster Chris Booth was the scorekeeper, whose attempt to keep the leader board current was a job in and of itself.
When the dust finally settled and the scales closed on Day Three, all eyes turned to the results as the scorekeeper logged in the final tally. Rob Skillman of the Moore Bills and Ed Katzianer of the Liquidity emerged with the 1st and 2nd heaviest tuna respectively. In the yellow fin category, the winners were Jim Foulke in the Trust Me, John Oughton in the Pretty Work, and Rich Pell in the Soul Mate. John Raimondo and the Sea Mistress and Jerry Lanzerotti’s Singularis also remained on the leader board in the stringer category.
As for Chris Booth and his weigh team, it’s unlikely that they will see any reduction in their workload during the 2010 tournament. The only question is will your name be on that very busy leader board?
